Walk through a barren landscape. What happened here? Crumbling remains of brickwork, concrete, metals rusting before their time. Red sky at night, the Underworld's delight.
I told you so.
Winking light overhead. A star? A satellite? Survivour mourning silently in the sky for it's children; too deafened by themselves to listen.
Untouched footprints of timeless creation - as if the moon and Earth exchanged lives. Follow the footprints. Where are we going? Back to see the past forever frozen in stone.
Pinpointed. There. That place. That moment. That decision.
Unidentified smoke, cloth bleached by exposure. An angry wound in the sky of a mother sun forcing time onwards.
Turn around and walk away. Walk on to find something - SOMETHING.
Where to begin?

Date: 2008-05-27 04:55 am (UTC)Now that you're friends-locked I'll ask here: are you still playing, and would you be interested in sharing some ideas and experiences about the game?

Date: 2008-05-27 06:12 pm (UTC)This is my first MMOG and one of the things I'm finding fascinating about it is the sense of getting to observe behaviours which I don't normally get to see and hear these days. That includes a fair amount of boys behaving badly, sexism and (especially) heterosexism, but also some much more encouraging stuff. I expect that my current sense of anthropological curiosity will wear of in a month or three and I'll be making some decisions about what I'm willing to tolerate and who I want to spend my play time with.
Is there a better forum to chat? LJ private messages? Email? Catching up somewhere while I'm in London this weekend? (I'm not actually sure whether I could timetable that last one, but it's worth a mention.)

Date: 2008-05-28 08:13 am (UTC)I should warn you pre-emptively that the EVE community is pretty cutthroat and harsh. A lot of other MMOs are positively 'carebear' in the way they mollycoddle you and punish people for acting like dicks but in EVE as long as you aren't exploiting, hacking or otherwise interfering in actual game mechanics - it's all fair game. If you don't have a tough skin, people smacktalking you in the local chat channel bothers you and can't face the prospect of getting randomly blown up by a suicide kamikaze squad who want to steal your stuff the moment you look away from the screen, EVE won't be for you ;-)

Date: 2008-05-28 07:49 pm (UTC)Currently playing with Eve Uni, so some aspects of the culture are apparently atypical (but see previous comments). Been tackling and scouting in the Uni's wars for the last eight-ish weeks. Now on holiday for a month: can't log on to the game but can watch the drama bombs on the forums.
I'll send my email in another reply which I'll then delete from LJ. I'm assuming you'll get the email from LJ saying what's been posted. I'll be tricky to contact between Thursday morning and Saturday lunchtime, when we roll into London, but Sunday's mostly down for catching up with people so we might manage something. :-)
so you are off?
Date: 2008-07-02 02:12 pm (UTC)I log on to live journal for the first time in ages and find you are off? For whom can one now rely upon for reliable sushi restaurant reviews? Albeit I am perfecting my own sushi preparation, have you had the delight of what is commonly called the jewel box of sushi?
If you have gone for good, be well.

This is rather amazing! If you're behind those words, then I hope we can "befriend".
